When is the timing right to hire a Wedding DJ?
So you are planning your wedding. You know you need to start to investigate what options are out there. And once you have it’s best to lock your vendors in as soon as you have found the one!
But the question is just how far back should you plan to hire? The REAL question is when should you hire a wedding DJ? The advice you may see online is a bit all over the place, and it depends on where you are reading things. Like any advice, some of these numbers are based on sound averages and others are seriously misleading.
- The Knot says at 9-11 months
- WeddingWire says 9 months
- Brides.com says 6 months
Now there is no question you can, with a bit of luck, find a great DJ as the date grows closer and closer. But that could result in not getting your first or even second choice.
My average booking date out was 255 days (8.5 months) but there are some dates on the calendar that I book clients 18+ months out and I am turning away dozens of couples that call in too late.
As a rule of thumb, right after you secure your venue. you should already be ready to interview DJs (and be sure to read what questions to ask your DJ and anticipate a proper budget). And if you have some DJ (or another vendor) who you absolutely must have, then it would be best to secure their services first, then work with the other vendors and venue.
But there is a very simple answer to when you should hire a wedding DJ: Now! As soon as you can! Don’t delay! You can even contact me right here to get the process started.
